KOMMETJIE · CAPE TOWN · SOUTH AFRICA
Between fynbos and surf: Villa Austral blends Cape vernacular architecture with the untamed spirit of the Atlantic coast. Two independent houses on a sprawling private estate — just 10 metres from Long Beach, one of South Africa's most spectacular surf beaches.
THE ENSEMBLE
At the south-western tip of the Cape Peninsula, where the Atlantic sculpts kilometres of white sand and the Slangkop lighthouse keeps watch over fynbos hills, you'll find Villa Austral. Not a resort, not a hotel — a private estate with two houses that brings the raw luxury of the Cape coast to life.
The 1,900 m² property borders Long Beach and delivers everything that makes an Atlantic stay unforgettable: a heated pool under South African skies, a barrel sauna with ocean views, a braai terrace for evenings beneath the Southern Cross — and absolute silence.

THE VILLA
Villa Austral comprises two architecturally distinct buildings that nestle into the dune landscape of Kommetjie. The main house — generous, light-filled and spread across three floors — forms the heart of the estate. The beach house at the property's edge offers intimate proximity to the sea. Both share a pool, sauna and a garden shaped by milkwood trees and fynbos.
Across three floors, the main house blends open living areas with private retreats. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the Atlantic coastline, while natural materials — stone, timber, linen — create an atmosphere that feels like home, not accommodation.

EXPLORE & DISCOVER
The Cape Peninsula is one of those rare places where wilderness and world city sit just half an hour apart. Morning surf at the Outer Kom, lunchtime penguins at Boulders Beach, afternoon wine in Constantia — and evening snoek off your own braai. Discover all 26 activity tips → · Restaurant guide → · Café guide →
Kommetjie is Cape Town's surf mecca. The Outer Kom ranks among South Africa's finest right-handers, while Long Beach is perfect for beginners and families. Kitesurfing, SUP and kayaking through kelp forests are part of daily life here.
Table Mountain National Park begins practically at the doorstep. Trails through fynbos fields, along cliffs to Cape Point and over Chapman's Peak — one of the most spectacular coastal roads on earth.
Here the snoek comes straight off the boat, the crayfish from the bay and the bobotie from grandmother's recipe. Cape Malay cuisine, braai culture and a thriving craft-beer scene make the region a culinary adventure.
Where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans collide: Cape Point is just a 25-minute drive. The Slangkop lighthouse — South Africa's tallest cast-iron lighthouse — stands right in Kommetjie.
Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Constantia — the beating heart of South African wine — lie 30 to 45 minutes away. World-class estates, farm-to-table restaurants and landscapes that take your breath away.
The Mother City with its cosmopolitan flair, Zeitz MOCAA, Neighbourgoods Market and one of Africa's finest restaurant scenes is roughly 40 minutes by car.
Long Beach stretches for six kilometres — white sand, kelp forests in the shallows and the silhouette of Chapman's Peak behind. Villa Austral's direct beach access makes the walk to the ocean as short as the reach for your coffee cup.
When the sun sinks behind the Atlantic and kelp gulls wheel over Kommetjie, it becomes clear: this place was made for people who see stillness not as boredom, but as luxury.

ABOUT US
Our roots lie in Flensburg, Paris and Perth — three continents that have shaped who we are. Today we live in Berlin, but 15 years ago we fell in love with South Africa. And especially with Kommetjie: this raw, unspoilt surfer's paradise at the tip of the Cape Peninsula, where the Atlantic meets endless beaches and time moves just a little slower.
With our three boys, we spend every free moment here — surfing at Long Beach, sundowners along the Slangkop coast and fresh snoek off the braai. We know the region inside out and love sharing our favourite spots with our guests. Our restaurant picks → · Regional shopping tips →
