From November to March, Kommetjie turns into one long beach festival of sundowners, braais and bright, lingering evenings. A guide to our favourite season from [Villa Austral](/en/). ## Weather & water temperatures Peak summer (December to February) brings 25–32 °C, long sunny days and the typical "Cape Doctor" — the south-easterly that sweeps clouds off Table Mountain. The Atlantic stays brisk at 13–17 °C (Long Beach water temperature), while False Bay warms up to 21 °C. For warmer swimming, head to Boulders, Fish Hoek or Muizenberg. ## Long Beach in summer Right outside the villa: 7 km of fine white sand, perfect for early-morning walks, surfing in the late morning and kite-flying in the afternoon when the south-easter picks up. Bring a wetsuit or boogie board — both wait for you at the villa. ## Highlights of the summer season Cape Point Vineyards Thursday Market — picnic sundowners with live music under old oaks. Galileo Open Air Cinema — film nights on wine estates and at Kirstenbosch. Kirstenbosch Summer Concerts — Sundays from 5 pm, open-air jazz, pop and classical. First Thursdays Cape Town — galleries and boutiques in the city centre stay open late. Wine harvest in Stellenbosch & Franschhoek — February to April, with cellar tours at many estates. ## Cape Town's best summer days Our family ritual: breakfast on the terrace overlooking the dunes, a morning surf at Inner Kom, lunch at the Foodbarn in Noordhoek, an afternoon by the pool or in the [Silvermine Reserve](/en/journal/wildlife-kap-halbinsel), then sundowners on Chapman's Peak and a braai under the Southern Cross. ## Practical: what to know Sun protection — UV index 11+, a midday break in the shade is essential. Save water — summer is dry season. Quick showers, no garden irrigation. Restaurant reservations — peak season is fully booked, especially around Christmas and New Year. Flights — December is the most expensive month, January to March is significantly cheaper. ## When to come? For warmth and festivals: December and January.
